Hi everyone! I am Ms. Best and I teach AP 3-D Design here at Liberty Ranch High School.  So I wanted to tell you a little bit about AP and what it means to be in an AP class. #1 There is a prerequisite for this class.  So you need to have taken Sculpture I or Ceramics I to even be in this class. It is also recommended that you have taken Sculpture II (2) or Ceramics II (2), however if you have spoken to a teacher, either me or one of the other Ceramic teachers, and were given the okay to take AP, then you can take it before you take one of the second-year classes. So, what AP is... Basically AP is you are going to be submitting a bulk up work to what is called College Board, which is a group of professionals, artists, professors, and teachers who will be looking at the quality of your work... and they are going to be judging it... and the endgame is to hopefully to be able to get a high enough score to get actual college credit for this class.  That's kind of what we're going for, and what we're hoping for.   So these are some examples of student art work... so I want to show you a little bit more... So, again, AP students need to be highly motivated to do artwork everyday. So if you are that type of person that you're always sketching, you're always making those sculptures, even if you are not even in sculpture class, or any art class, then AP is probably going to be a great class for you. Also, over the Summer.  So, right now if you were to take AP, there's not a specific requirement that you have to do Summer work, but I will be contacting you and meeting with you and kind of going over some of the criteria and some of the lessons that will be doing, so that way whenever you're actually in the AP class you're not completely overwhelmed, you're kind of know what you're getting into ... and, if you want to, go ahead and do some work on the Summer, you'll be ahead of the game. Because, right now, students, because we're at COVID, students are required to submit five (5) high-quality art pieces.  So these are pieces that like show what you can do, they are like the best of the best... but next year things might change a little bit more and that amount of work may go up if you're back in person. Okay.  Along with those five (5) high-quality pieces, you need to submit fifteen (15) investigation peices. And, again, that could change.  That may be going up to more pieces if we are in person... but investigation pieces can be drawings, they can be sketches, they can be like little mini models, they can be trying out ideas that you've never tried before. So it's really kind of that place where you can play around and try something new. So that is definitely part of AP. Okay. The other part of AP is they really want you to kind of focus in on a theme or kind of like a unit of artwork.  So, kind of like your artwork has kind of... they are all kind of innerconnected... and as far as that theme that's up to you.  Some people use a social issue.  This one in particular has to do with ocean. I've had students do things on how media influences us... it can be something as simple as video games, sure.  Okay.  So, kind of be brainstorming and thinking about what your theme of art work will be, if AP is something that you are interested in. Sketchbooks. We use sketchbooks every single day in AP. And the other thing that is great about using your sketchbook is you can also use it in your portfolio. So, again, in those fifteen (15) investigation pieces you can use your sketchbook.   Your sketchbook is your place for you to write down all of your ideas.  It's a place for you to play around with colors, with textures, with designs, with ideas.  It may also be a place where for you to print out things that inspire you, things that you want to do.  So, again, we use the sketchbook a lot and it is also (or it can be) referred for your portfolio. Okay... and these are just some example portfolios from my class, where students are really kind of getting ideas, they're jotting them down, they're finding stuff from the Internet, they're kind of intermixing that with their own sketches.   The last thing I kind of wanted say about AP 3d Design is its really kind of a place you can play around with many different ideas that you wouldn't use in the traditional classroom. So, here on campus, we do things like clay, we do paper mache, we do wire, but maybe you want to do something in felting, or maybe you want to do something in wax... its really a place where you try a lot of different varity... and that is something AP is looking for, that you are trying different techniques and different things. So hopefully AP is something that you be interested in.  It's a great class. We have a lot of fun.  We make just amazing artwork.  So I hope to see you there! Thank you so much.  Bye guys!
